About this event
Mountain Designs GeoQuest 48 Hour Adventure Race is a non-stop, team-based 48-hour challenge that tests your physical and mental limits through trekking, mountain biking, and kayaking[1][6].
This event, held annually from 25–28 September 2026 in Forster on the Barrington Coast, NSW, is Australia’s oldest adventure race, established in 2002[1][4].
Forster is a 3-hour drive from Sydney and just 60 minutes south of Port Macquarie[1].
Teams of 2 or 4 compete in one of three categories: Premier (Mixed), All-Female, or All-Male[1][6].
You must finish the race with the same number of team members you started with[6].
Two course options are available: the Full Course, the ultimate test for a team, and the Geo-Half, which is approximately half the distance but still allows teams the full 48 hours to reach the finish line[1][6].
Teams can race “supported,” bringing one additional person as non-racing support crew, or “unsupported,” with the GeoQuest team handling all logistics[1][6].
At most transition areas, supported teams will be met by their support crew, while unsupported teams will be assisted by the transition crew[1].
All teams start at the same location and navigate each leg consecutively in a linear race format[1].
The race begins at Forster and finishes at Race HQ[1].
This is not a relay; teammates must stay together for the entire race[1][6].
GeoQuest emphasizes teamwork, fitness, and adventure, offering a pinnacle experience in Australian adventure racing[1][6].
