The Dirty Pig and Whistle
Event location
Description
Organiser: CORPORATE CYCLING
The Dirty Pig and Whistle is a gravel racing and cycling event that takes place over two days in the picturesque towns, fields, farms, and forests of Creswick and Clunes in the Central Victoria's Goldfields. On Day 1 (Saturday), the Cyclo-Cross racing takes place in the afternoon and early evening at the local Hammon Park, Creswick. Day 2 (Sunday) is when the gravel event takes place, with three different options available: the Full Course Ride (120km) starting at 9:30 am, the Medio Course (80km) starting at 10:00 am, and the Short Course (40km) starting at 10:15 am. The first riders are expected back around midday.
The event is located in Creswick, which is 20 km north of Ballarat and 120 km from Melbourne CBD. You can travel there by car or by train to Ballarat and then by bus to Creswick. However, it's advisable to check with V-line if bikes can travel on the train and bus. If you plan to spend the weekend, it's recommended to base yourself at the Goldfields town of Ballarat or at Daylesford.
In May, expect the weather to be cool in the morning with averages of 5 to 14 degrees, and it could be wet and/or dry as it is Victoria in May. It can get below zero overnight, which is why the main ride starts after 9:00 am.
The event supports the charity Big Brothers Big Sisters of Australia, which provides long-term, one-to-one mentoring to help change the course of vulnerable young people's lives.
