About this event

Break a Sweat for Cystic Fibrosis is a nationwide fundraising campaign empowering Australians to walk or run for a cause. Join us from September 1-30, 2026, to participate in a 5km or 10km walk or run and help raise vital funds for cystic fibrosis research, support services, and advocacy.

Close to 3,800 Australians live with cystic fibrosis (CF), a serious genetic disorder affecting the lungs and digestive system. While treatments continue to improve, many people in our community still wait for better solutions and ultimately a cure. Living with CF is challenging work—so is finding a cure. By participating in Break a Sweat for CF, you're directly contributing to essential research initiatives, enhanced support services, and strengthened advocacy that will help improve lives.

The campaign offers multiple ways to get involved and make an impact. Participants can register individually or as teams, choose their preferred distance (5km or 10km), and select their participation method. The Melbourne flagship event takes place on September 13, 2026, at Palms Lawn, Albert Park Lake, Victoria, bringing the community together for an in-person celebration. For those unable to attend in Melbourne, the virtual challenge runs throughout September, allowing participants to walk 5km every day during the month from anywhere in Australia.

How it works is simple: sign up for Break a Sweat for CF and choose your preferred distance and format; fundraise by telling friends and family about your participation and encouraging them to donate to your personal page; then break a sweat by setting off on your walk or run and showing your support for CF research and services; and earn rewards by collecting badges and unlocking exclusive rewards as you progress through your journey.

Participants also benefit from a rewards program designed to make the experience more engaging and rewarding. As you complete your walks or runs, you'll unlock badges and gain access to special rewards, keeping you motivated throughout the campaign.

Meet Break a Sweat Ambassador Adrian, who lives with both CF and CF-Related Diabetes. Adrian discovered the power of running in his 20s as a way to increase lung function, and it has had remarkable benefits not only for his health metrics but also for his mental wellbeing. Adrian's story demonstrates how movement and community can transform lives, and he encourages everyone—whether balancing family, school, or work—to move as much as they can and join the Break a Sweat for CF community.

Together, we can do more than just break a sweat—we can beat cystic fibrosis and create a future where everyone with CF lives a full life, lived to the full. Register today, rally your community, and fundraise. Let's break a sweat for CF, together.
