The **Christmas Island Marathon** on Sunday, August 16, 2026, is Australia's northernmost running event, set just 346.5 km from the coast of southern Java in the heart of the Indian Ocean.

This scenic challenge traces its roots to a friendly wager among local Hash House Harriers, evolving into a globally recognized adventure that draws runners worldwide.

The 42.2 km full marathon course starts at the island's elevated plateau, 260 meters above sea level, and descends through roads, multi-terrain trails, lush tropical rainforests, and rugged coastline to the stunning finish at Flying Fish Cove. Run solo or join a relay team of up to six members.

Additional distances include a half marathon (21.1 km), 5 km dash, 2 km family fun walk, and options to walk any course (non-accredited).

As an Australian territory, Christmas Island requires no visa for Australian participants, offering an accessible gateway to this remote paradise.
