About this event
Devil of a Swim is a much-loved open-water swimming event on Tasmania’s east coast, hosted by the Bicheno Surf Life Saving Club. Founded in 2010 by Olympic gold medallist Shane Gould, the event brings swimmers together to take on scenic ocean courses while supporting devil facial tumour disease research and raising funds for the surf club.
The 2027 program is scheduled to feature distances for a range of ages and abilities, including the 5km Scott Anthony Endurance Swim, 2km and 1km open-water swims, and a 400m kids swim. Participants can enter wetsuit, fins or skins categories, with swimmers aged 12 and over eligible for the 5km, 2km and 1km events. The kids swim has no minimum age requirement.
The 5km event honours Scott Anthony, a respected member of the Coles Bay community. The advertised course traditionally showcases the spectacular coastline around Bicheno, including the waters near Waubs Beach, Redbill Beach and Diamond Island. Course arrangements may be subject to change for safety and operational reasons.
With its combination of challenging ocean swimming, family-friendly distances and a strong community fundraising focus, Devil of a Swim offers an active way to experience Tasmania’s east coast while supporting important local and conservation causes.
