About this event
Use your muscles for those who cannot during FSHD Global's September Squat Challenge. This nationwide fundraiser supports research into facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) and muscle regeneration. More than 3,000 Australians live with FSHD, a progressive muscle-wasting condition that can gradually affect abilities including walking, eating, blinking and smiling.
Set a Squat Target That Challenges You
Take part anywhere in Australia from 1 to 30 September 2026. Choose a personal squat goal that suits your ability, whether that means 10 squats a day, 100 a day or another target that feels challenging and achievable. Complete your squats across the month and share your progress with friends, family or colleagues.
The challenge has welcomed participants ranging from schoolchildren to athletes since it began in 2020. Individuals can join on their own, while workplaces and community groups can register an organisation, create a team or join an existing team.
Sign Up, Squat and Share
Registration is free. Use the registration link on this event page to sign up, set your squat and fundraising targets, and tell people why you are using your muscles for those who cannot. Invite supporters to donate to your fundraiser as you work towards your squat goal throughout September.
You can tailor the challenge to your fitness level and schedule. The goal is to choose something meaningful for you, stay active and help raise awareness and funds for people affected by FSHD.
Fund Research and Earn Rewards
Money raised supports FSHD Global Research Foundation's work funding medical research and biotechnology aimed at treating FSHD and advancing muscle regeneration. The patient-led organisation also supports advocacy and clinical-trial readiness for the Australian FSHD community.
Fundraising milestones can unlock rewards including caps and T-shirts. Every 0 raised also earns an entry for the chance to win additional prizes, giving participants another reason to share their challenge and build support.
Use Your Muscles for Good
For many people living with FSHD, movements that others take for granted can become difficult or impossible. By squatting, fundraising or supporting a participant, you can help FSHD Global pursue its mission of improving quality of life and finding effective treatments. Choose your target, gather a team if you wish, and make your September squats count.
