Kangaroo Island Marathon
Event location
Description
The Kangaroo Island Marathon, including Half Marathon and 10K races, will be held on Sunday, 23 August 2026 at the Flinders Chase Visitors Centre on Kangaroo Island, South Australia. This premier event was established to highlight one of Australia’s best-kept secrets—Kangaroo Island, affectionately known as "KI" by locals. Situated just 14 km off the South Australian coast and only a 2-hour drive from Adelaide, the island is renowned for its abundant native wildlife, pristine beaches, dramatic cliffs, and stunning ocean sunsets.
The marathon course winds through the heart of Flinders Chase National Park, a temporarily closed natural reserve recovering from bushfires. Runners will experience a challenging and scenic route featuring rolling hills, regenerating native flora and fauna, and an exposed coastal section with breathtaking views of the powerful Southern Ocean. The course also includes a distinctive boardwalk leading to the iconic Remarkable Rocks and passes historic landmarks such as the Cape du Couedic Lighthouse and Admirals Arch.
Organized by Marathon Tours & Travel AU, the event fosters a spirit of camaraderie among participants while showcasing Kangaroo Island's unique natural beauty and wildlife. It promises a memorable and immersive running experience in a pristine environment with a time limit of seven hours to complete the course.
