About this event
Surf every day in September and turn each session into support for families in remote surf communities. Make A Wave is SurfAid's month-long fundraising challenge, running from 1 to 30 September 2026. Surfers of all experience levels can take part from wherever they are.
Thirty Days of Waves
The challenge is to get into the water each day throughout September and record each session through your online fundraising profile. Join as an individual or rally friends, family, a surf school or boardriders club into a team. If a daily surf is not possible, the organisers encourage participants to make a wave another way, such as body surfing or swimming. A Lay Day can also be taken by making a $25 donation to your fundraising page.
Why Your Waves Matter
Funds raised support SurfAid programs for families living near remote waves in Indonesia and the Solomon Islands. These programs improve access to healthcare, clean water and sanitation, nutritious food and practical health education. The campaign focuses on lasting, community-led improvements in places where basic services can be difficult to reach.
Double Your Impact
Participants who raise $120 can join the Freely Legends Club. Through the Z Zurich Foundation's partnership with Freely, eligible fundraising at this milestone will be dollar matched, turning $120 into $240 for SurfAid's programs. The milestone also includes a limited-edition Freely x Make A Wave 2026 rashie, a special travel insurance offer and a profile badge, subject to the campaign conditions.
Fundraising Rewards and Team Challenges
Participants can compete on the main leaderboard or join the Surf School Showdown, Boardriders Bash and Grombassador Awards. Verified campaign prizes include Rip Curl vouchers for leading fundraisers, team rewards, surf experiences and gear from participating surf and adventure brands. Rewards and prize eligibility vary by category.
