About this event
Go further this October for Australians living, working and travelling in rural and remote communities. Oceans to Outback is a free, nationwide virtual fitness and fundraising challenge supporting the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Walk, Run or Ride All Month
From 1 to 31 October 2026, choose walking, running or cycling and complete your kilometres wherever and whenever it suits you. The challenge is fully virtual, so you can participate indoors or outdoors, on local paths, at the gym or wherever you prefer. Take part solo, create or join a team, or get involved with your workplace.
Walkers and runners can select a 42 km, 87 km or 98 km goal, while cyclists can choose 247 km, 609 km or 1,060 km. You can also nominate a distance of your own. Complete it in short daily sessions, weekly efforts, fortnightly outings or any pattern that works for you.
Track Your Virtual Journey
Log each walk, run or ride manually through the participant dashboard, or connect Fitbit, Strava or Map My Fitness. Your recorded kilometres move you along a virtual journey to Royal Flying Doctor Service locations throughout Australia. Training kilometres may be logged before October, with the challenge total beginning fresh at the start of the month.
Help Keep the Flying Doctor Flying
Registration is free, with an optional self-donation available during sign-up. Each participant receives a personal fundraising page to share with friends, family and colleagues. Funds raised help the Royal Flying Doctor Service provide aeromedical emergency retrievals, patient transfers and essential primary healthcare for people across remote, rural and regional Australia.
Every kilometre is a practical show of support for communities where timely healthcare may be many hours away. Participants can encourage one another through individual, team and workplace fundraising while contributing to a service that reaches people wherever care is needed.
Choose Your Challenge
Select your activity, distance and fundraising target when registering. New participants are also offered a free Oceans to Outback T-shirt, claimed through the participant dashboard. Once registered, start sharing your page and prepare to log your kilometres throughout October.
