About this event
The Run Larapinta Stage Race is an iconic four-day trail running event from Friday, August 14 to Monday, August 17, 2026, along spectacular sections of the Larapinta Trail in the MacDonnell Ranges near Alice Springs, Northern Territory, Australia.
This bucket-list adventure through the heart of the Red Centre features rugged terrain including boulder fields, ridge-line scrambles, steep gorges, rocky ridgelines, and ancient outback landscapes.
Choose between two course options:
- Malbunka long course (total ~128km): Stages range from 19.5-41km, ideal for experienced runners seeking a greater challenge.
- Namatjira short course (total ~83km): Stages range from 13.5-27km, more accessible for runners of all levels.
Run all four stages or select individual days to suit your goals and fitness.

THE NAMATJIRA (Short Course)
Stage 1: 13.5K from the Old Telegraph Station > the Mercure
Stage 2: 20K from Standley Chasm > to Standley Chasm loop
Stage 3: 22K Birthday Waterhole > Standley Chasm
Stage 4: 27K Counts Point turn off > Ellery Creek Waterhole
THE MALBUNKA (Long Course)
Stage 1: 19.5K from the Old Telegraph Station > the Mercure
Stage 2: 41K from Simpson’s Gap > Standley Chasm
Stage 3: 33K Birthday Waterhole turn-off > Standley Chasm
Stage 4: 34K Ochre Pits > Ellery Creek Waterhole
