Red Centre Wringer Backyard Ultra
Event location
Description
Organiser: Alice Springs Running and Walking Club
The Red Centre Wringer Backyard Ultra, organized by the Alice Springs Running and Walking Club, is a challenging last-person-standing ultramarathon event commencing on 1 August 2026.
In this unique race format, participants must complete a 6.7 km loop within each one-hour interval, starting precisely on the hour. After finishing a lap, runners use the remaining time within that hour to rest and prepare for the next lap. The event continues until only one runner completes a lap that no other competitor matches, crowning them the winner.
The race is held at the Telegraph Station Historical Reserve in Alice Springs, featuring a technically demanding course with approximately 70 meters of elevation gain, sandy terrain, water crossings, and rocky sections.
This is a self-supported event, requiring all participants to carry their own food and hydration supplies, with no personal aid allowed during laps. Strict Backyard Ultra rules apply, including that runners must start each lap on the hour and complete it within the hour to continue.
Distances:
1 x 6.71K lap per hour - Last one standing format
