About this event
Use your muscles for those who cannot during the September Squat Challenge, a nationwide fundraiser supporting FSHD Global Research Foundation’s work on FSHD muscular dystrophy and muscle regeneration research. More than 3,000 Australians are affected by FSHD, a progressive muscle-wasting disease that can take away abilities such as walking, eating, blinking and smiling.
Set a Squat Target That Challenges You
Take part anywhere in Australia from 1 to 30 September 2026. Choose a personal squat goal that matches your ability—whether that is 10 squats a day, 100 a day or another target—then complete the challenge across the month. Since the challenge began in 2020, people ranging from schoolchildren to experienced athletes have joined in. Participants can invite friends and family to support their fundraising.
Sign Up, Squat and Share
Registration is free. Use the registration link on this event page to create your fundraising page, set your squat and fundraising goals, and let friends know why you are taking part. The fundraising page tracks donations rather than squat totals, but participants can use the blog in their dashboard to post daily or weekly progress updates.
Fund Research and Earn Rewards
Funds raised support FSHD Global Research Foundation’s medical research, patient advocacy and work enabling clinical trials in Australia. Fundraising milestones can unlock rewards including caps and T-shirts, and every $50 raised earns an entry for the chance to win additional prizes.
Take Part in a Way That Works for You
If squats are not suitable, seek advice from your GP before starting a fitness challenge and skip the physical activity if needed. You can still support the campaign by encouraging others to join or by fundraising. Starting later in September is also welcome; participants are encouraged to do what they can, take rest days when needed and focus on raising awareness and funds.
