About this event

Cause

The Virtual Miracle Moon Walk supports the Miracle Babies Foundation and its work with premature and sick newborns, their families and the communities around them. Families can face an unexpected and difficult journey when a baby arrives early or requires specialised hospital care. The event invites supporters across Australia to walk together in spirit, raise awareness and generate funds for services that help families through this experience. By taking part, walkers can show that this journey needs more than medical care: it also needs practical support, understanding and a strong community.

Miracle Moon Walk months are held throughout August and September. The virtual option makes the campaign accessible to people who cannot attend the physical events in Sydney or Perth, as well as supporters who prefer to participate close to home. Friends, relatives, workplaces and community groups can all join, fundraise and help extend the reach of the Miracle Babies Foundation.

What to Expect

This is a flexible virtual walking challenge rather than a single organised race. Participants choose any suitable date during August or September, decide how far they would like to walk and plan a route that works for their location and ability. You can walk independently or make the day social by gathering friends, family members or colleagues. The focus is on participation, fundraising and community support rather than speed or competition.

Suggested city walks are available for several Australian locations, including Brisbane, Darwin, Adelaide, Melbourne, Hobart and Newcastle. Registered virtual walkers receive route maps and directions in the information booklet. These routes are optional. Participants can instead use a familiar Tuesday walking route, a scenic local trail, a neighbourhood loop or another safe and accessible course. This flexibility allows families and supporters throughout Australia to create an experience that suits their schedule.

How to Participate

  1. Register for the Virtual Miracle Moon Walk through the official event website.
  2. Choose a date between 1 August and 30 September 2026.
  3. Invite friends, family members, colleagues or community supporters to join your walk.
  4. Select one of the suggested city routes or plan your own safe walking course.
  5. Personalise your fundraising page with a campaign name, your reason for participating and photos that encourage support.
  6. Share the page through social media, email and direct messages to begin fundraising.
  7. Complete your walk on your chosen date and celebrate the contribution made by your team and supporters.

After registration, participants can log in to the Miracle Babies self-service area and select My Fundraising. From there, the campaign name, personal message and images can be updated. Sharing why the cause matters to you can help supporters understand the purpose of the challenge and encourage donations.

Cost

Registration for the Virtual Miracle Moon Walk is completely free. There is no entry fee, making the event easy to join as an individual, family, workplace or group. Participants are encouraged to fundraise for the Miracle Babies Foundation, but the event information does not specify a compulsory minimum donation for taking part.

Costs associated with personal travel, refreshments or equipment are not included. Walkers should choose an appropriate route, check local conditions, wear comfortable footwear, carry water and follow normal road and trail safety guidance.

Milestone Rewards

Once a registered participant reaches the first fundraising milestone of $150, they will receive an official walker pack to help prepare for the Miracle Moon Walk. The pack provides a tangible way to recognise fundraising progress and build excitement before the chosen walking date.

Participants can continue fundraising beyond the first milestone by regularly sharing their personalised page and providing updates about their planned route, walking group or motivation. Every contribution helps support the work of the Miracle Babies Foundation, while every share can introduce the cause to a wider community. Whether you follow a suggested capital-city route or design a walk near home, the Virtual Miracle Moon Walk offers a meaningful and active way to stand alongside families of premature and sick newborns.
