About this event
Walk 58km during October for the 58 Australians diagnosed with breast cancer every day. Complete the distance wherever you choose and at your own pace—less than 2km a day across the month. This nationwide virtual challenge combines regular movement with fundraising for people affected by breast cancer.
Cover 58km Your Way
The challenge runs from 1 to 31 October 2026. Participants can walk solo or form a team, choose their own routes, and split the 58km across the month in whatever way suits them. You might walk about 2km each day, plan longer outings every few days, or set a higher personal distance target.
Track Your Progress
After registering, participants receive a downloadable calendar for recording kilometres. A personal fundraising dashboard can also track walks and donations. Compatible activity services include Strava, Fitbit and MapMyFitness, which can sync recorded activities to the dashboard. GPS-enabled watches, fitness trackers or a smartphone can be used to record walking activity.
Support Breast Cancer Research and Services
Registration is free, with participants encouraged to raise funds and share their challenge with friends, family and colleagues. Donations support Cancer Council breast cancer research, early detection and treatment programs, as well as information and support services for people affected by cancer and their carers. Cancer Councils around Australia have teamed up for the challenge, and funds help people affected by cancer nationwide.
Join the October Challenge
Use the registration link on this event page to create an individual or team fundraising page. You can then set a fundraising goal, record your walks and follow your progress throughout October. There is no minimum fundraising target, and participants who do not complete the full distance can still contribute by taking part and supporting the cause.
