About this event
Wheels & Wattle is a family-friendly weekend cycling event in Maryborough, held over the AFL Grand Final long weekend. It brings riders, families and visitors together for two days of non-competitive rides through the Central Victorian goldfields, with options on road and mixed surfaces suited to gravel bikes, mountain bikes and hybrids.
The event hub is set at Princes Park, close to the town centre, creating a relaxed base for riders and supporters to gather, enjoy local food and make the most of a spring weekend in regional Victoria. The program includes road rides along quiet country roads, as well as off-road routes through gravel tracks, farmland and bushland.
A highlight of the road program is the King of the Mountain climb up Mt Tarrengower. Off-road rides explore historically significant state forest trails, offering a scenic ride through landscapes shaped by the region’s goldfields heritage. Late September also brings the bloom of local wattle and surrounding canola fields, adding a distinctly seasonal feel to the event.
Organised by the Maryborough Rotary Club, Wheels & Wattle is designed as a welcoming regional event that showcases the landscapes and stories of the Central Goldfields while encouraging riders of varied abilities to take part.
