Activity Details

Introduction:

Our club organises regular bushwalks and other outdoor activities in parks and forests near Melbourne, throughout Victoria and interstate.

Day walks are run on most Sundays, some Saturdays and some Wednesdays or Thursdays - usually within 1-2 hours drive from Melbourne, but also within metropolitan Melbourne. Unless advised otherwise or Covid-19 restrictions intervene, we generally carpool from Kew to reach the walk start. Walkers may choose not to take part in carpooling - if so, please advise the leader prior to the walk.

We also run multi-day activities, including overnight walks (with packs) and base camps (in cabins or tents), with associated day walks. Overnight activities are usually held over long weekends and in major holiday periods, at bush locations in country Victoria and interstate.

There are regular social events and occasionally we do snow trips, cycling, and canoeing.

You are invited to walk with Boroondara Bushwalkers. You do not need to be an experienced bushwalker - we cater for all fitness levels, and beginners are especially welcome.

About the provider

Bushwalking VIC

As Victoria’s peak body for bushwalking, we represent all bushwalkers and bushwalking clubs in the state. Now an incorporated organisation, our roots go back to 1934 when the Federation of Victorian Walking Clubs was established. In 2006, a major restructure modernised the organisation and we adopted our current name to better reflect our key area of interest.

We work to unite members of Victoria’s diverse walking community – bushwalking club members, people from organisations with similar interests and individuals.

Thinking of hiking/bushwalking groups?

Social hiking or bushwalking groups can be organized by a variety of organizations, including local parks and recreation departments, hiking clubs, and online communities.

The benefits of joining a social hiking group are numerous. For one, it can provide a sense of community and motivation, as you have the support and encouragement of others to help you stick to your hiking routine. Hiking groups can also be a great way to meet new people and make new friends, especially if you are new to an area or looking to expand your social circle.

In terms of structure, social hiking groups can vary. Some groups may have a designated leader who plans the route and sets the pace, while others may be more informal, with participants simply showing up and hiking together. Some groups may meet on a regular basis, such as once a week, while others may be more sporadic.
