About this event
Bravery Trek is a free virtual challenge that celebrates the service and sacrifice of Australian defence personnel while supporting veterans and families facing financial hardship. Running throughout October 2026, this nationwide event invites Australians of all fitness levels to walk or run their way through a meaningful challenge that raises awareness and funds for critical veteran support services. Whether you're an experienced athlete or just starting your fitness journey, Bravery Trek offers an inclusive opportunity to participate in something bigger than yourself.
For more than two decades, Australian service personnel have served across Afghanistan and the Middle East Area of Operations in roles that demanded extraordinary courage, resilience, and dedication. They served as soldiers, sailors, aviators, medics, engineers, logisticians, and specialists, working alongside coalition and local partners in complex and demanding environments. Bravery Trek honours that service while recognising the often-invisible struggles many veterans and their families face after returning home. The transition from military service to civilian life can be challenging, and many veterans require practical support—financial counselling, housing assistance, and education programmes—to thrive.
Participants can choose between two distances tailored to different experience levels: 120km for individuals, families, first-time participants, and workplace teams seeking an achievable month-long challenge, or 240km for returning participants and those looking for a more ambitious challenge. There's no single way to complete Bravery Trek—you can walk, run, cycle, swim, or combine multiple activities throughout October. The flexibility means you can participate in a way that suits your lifestyle and fitness level. Track your progress using your smartphone, smartwatch, fitness tracker, or any device that measures distance. Logging is simple: visit your personal dashboard, enter the date and distance, and save. Alternatively, if you're a Strava user, connect your account to automatically sync your activities with no manual logging required.
Registering for Bravery Trek is completely free and takes just a few minutes. Every participant receives a personal fundraising page to share with friends, family, and colleagues, allowing you to invite support for the cause and share your motivation for taking part. Those who register and raise $65 or more before 1 September will receive an exclusive 2026 Bravery Trek official tee—a meaningful keepsake that shows your commitment to veterans' support.
Bravery Trek is run by Bravery Trust, an organisation dedicated to providing practical assistance to veterans and families before hardship becomes crisis. The organisation has grown into a trusted voice in veteran wellbeing, delivering financial support, counselling, and education services to those in need. Community Ambassador Meg Teasdell, who has participated in Bravery Trek for five years, describes the experience: "Bravery Trek is more than just a challenge. It's a chance to give back to those who've served and support the vital work Bravery Trust does every day." Through her involvement, Meg has connected with current and ex-serving members, hearing first-hand how service has shaped their lives and the importance of meaningful support after service.
The impact of Bravery Trek extends far beyond the event itself. Every kilometre logged represents real, tangible support for veterans facing financial difficulty, housing insecurity, employment challenges, and post-service transition difficulties. Participants often discover that the personal satisfaction of completing their chosen distance is matched only by the knowledge that their effort directly supports a cause that matters deeply. As Ambassador Murray Bruce notes, "It's not just about those who put their own lives on the line to serve our country—it is equally hard for their families. As a nation we have an obligation to support not only veterans, but also their loved ones who make sacrifices to support them."
Whether you're a seasoned runner, a casual walker, a cyclist, or someone new to fitness challenges, Bravery Trek welcomes you. The event is designed to be inclusive and achievable for participants of all ages and fitness levels. Join thousands of Australians in October and be part of a community that values service, supports those in need, and celebrates the resilience of our veterans and their families. Every registration, every kilometre, and every dollar raised makes a real difference in the lives of those who've served. Sign up for Bravery Trek today and start your journey—your kilometres count.
