Coogee Island Challenge (Autumn) is an open-water swimming event at Coogee Beach, offering three distances to suit a range of abilities: an 800m swim, a 1km swim and the 2.4km Wedding Cake Island circuit.
The shorter 800m and 1km courses stay within the sheltered waters of Coogee Bay, making them suitable for first-time ocean swimmers, participants building confidence and swimmers seeking a shorter challenge. The 2.4km course takes swimmers around Wedding Cake Island, combining a demanding open-water swim with spectacular coastal scenery.
The event also includes an 800m Junior Dash for swimmers aged 10 to 12. The junior course follows a rectangular route within Coogee Bay, with junior swimmers starting separately from the main 800m field. Surf lifesavers and water-safety crews support the course, while beachside encouragement adds to the welcoming atmosphere.
Participants aged 13 and over can choose the 800m Community Swim or the 1km Splash and Dash, while the 2.4km Wedding Cake Island swim provides the headline challenge for experienced ocean swimmers.
Registration is scheduled to open at 7.30am, followed by the Junior Dash at 8.30am, the 1km swim at 9.15am and the 2.4km swim at 10.15am. The 2027 event date is listed as Monday, 12 April, although some event listings indicate that the date remains subject to confirmation.
