Kilcunda Running Festival
Event location
Description
Organiser: Running Wild Australia
The Kilcunda Running Festival on Sunday, 1 February 2026, invites runners to experience stunning cliff-top and coastal trail running just 90 minutes from Melbourne along the Bass Highway.
Participants can choose from four distances: the Kilcunda Half Marathon (21.1 km), 17 km, 10 km, or a 5 km fun run.
Starting at the reserve adjacent to the Kilcunda caravan park, the course features a scenic out-and-back route along picturesque coastline, deserted beaches, and rolling grassy slopes. Runners will navigate a hilly, well-groomed trail that includes beach running, rail trails, and single-track sections.
This event offers an excellent introduction to trail running for beginners while providing a refreshing and challenging experience for seasoned runners. Water and first aid stations will be available at key points, and all runners are encouraged to carry safety gear and stay hydrated.
Post-run, participants can enjoy refreshments including a traditional Aussie BBQ, gelati, and coffee, with options to explore local attractions such as the Kilcunda Pub, General Store, rail trail, or Wonthaggi Coal Mine.
Runners should be considerate of other trail users and prepared for variable weather conditions with sun protection and water. A pre-race briefing will be held shortly before the start.
