About this event
Take on 71km, 142km or 213km throughout November for the 71 babies born prematurely in Australia each day. The Premmie Marathon Challenge is a free virtual fundraiser supporting life-saving neonatal equipment and research across Australia.
Choose 71km, 142km or 213km
Walk, run or ride towards your chosen target from 1 to 30 November 2026. You can cover the distance in as many sessions as you like, combine activities, and complete the challenge wherever you are. It is open to every age, ability and fitness level, with options to participate solo or create or join a team.
Track Every Kilometre
After registering, log activities through your personal fundraising page or the Premmie Marathon Challenge app. The app can display activity synced from compatible services and fitness trackers, including Strava, Apple Watch and Garmin, helping you follow your progress throughout the month and share updates with your team.
Help Premature Babies Across Australia
November is Prematurity Awareness Month. Funds raised support the equipment and research needs of Neonatal Intensive Care Units and Special Care Nurseries around Australia, helping premature babies receive the care they need. Running for Premature Babies reports that its community has helped save the lives of more than 21,250 babies.
Fundraising Is Optional, but Every Contribution Helps
Entry is free and fundraising is optional. Participants who raise or donate $71 can receive a Premmie Marathon Challenge T-shirt. Higher verified fundraising milestones include a running cap at $200, a finishers medal at $500, a copy of founder Sophie Smiths memoir at $1,000, a challenge hoodie at $2,500 and a personalised ambassador video message at $5,000. Rewards must be claimed through the participant dashboard where required.
