About this event
The Rail Trails Australia Conference returns to Canberra on Friday 6 November 2026, bringing together rail trail managers, proponents, volunteers, Friends groups and enthusiasts from across Australia.
With the theme “Exploring successes and opportunities of rail trails”, the conference will examine how rail trails have developed from initial concepts into established tourism and recreation products. Sessions will explore different approaches to management, ways to improve the visitor experience, and opportunities to connect rail trails with local attractions, art and nearby businesses.
The program will also highlight successful rail trail projects, including the Tumbarumba and Wagga Wagga Rail Trail, while providing a forum for prospective New South Wales rail trail groups to share ideas, build connections and continue progressing their projects.
Open to anyone with an interest in rail trails, the conference offers an opportunity to learn from people involved in developing, managing and promoting rail trails, exchange practical insights and connect with others who share a passion for these community assets.
The event will be held in Belconnen, Australian Capital Territory. Program details are subject to change.
