About this event
Run or walk 3km a day throughout November 2026 and turn every kilometre into support for life-saving diabetes research at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. This free, nationwide challenge lets you choose the time, place and pace that suit you while fundraising for work aimed at improving—and ultimately preventing—diabetes.
Your 3km-a-day challenge
From 1 to 30 November, participants aim to cover 3km each day by running or walking. Complete it outdoors, on a treadmill, close to home or wherever your routine takes you. Over the full month, the daily target adds up to 90km. The flexible virtual format means people around Australia can take part individually or with supporters, wherever they are.
Free to join, with funds raised for research
Registration is free. After signing up, participants can get moving, invite friends and family to support their effort, and raise money for researchers working to defeat diabetes. Use the contact options on this event page to register or ask the organiser a question.
Help change the future of diabetes
Almost 1.9 million Australians live with diabetes. Funds raised through this challenge support research designed to improve care and help prevent serious outcomes, including amputations.
The featured diabetes research includes Professor Morahan's work investigating the genetic signals behind type 1 diabetes. By studying families and following at-risk children from pregnancy through childhood, the research is building a clearer picture of how the condition develops. New genetic tools may help identify people at high risk before symptoms appear, opening possibilities for earlier intervention, improved treatment and, one day, prevention.
Take part this November
Register for free, set yourself the goal of 3km each day and choose whether to run, walk or combine both. Every day of movement can help build fitness, connect participants around a shared challenge and fund medical research with the potential to change lives.
