About this event
Try Scottish Country Dance in North Balwyn with two free October welcome sessions hosted by Box Hill and District Scottish Society. The sessions are held at Koonung Heights Uniting Church Hall and are designed for people who want an easy, friendly way to have a go before the society breaks until 2027.
Two Free Try Out Sessions
The first session on Tuesday 20 October is a very casual intro session from 7.30 pm to 8.45 pm. It is a gentle way to learn the basics with the society's teacher and see how Scottish Country Dance works in a relaxed group setting.
The second session on Tuesday 27 October runs from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm as a Community Welcome Dance. Participants can wear spring brights or tartan, dance with group members, try easy dances, and stay for a cuppa afterwards.
Who Can Join
No partner is required and you do not need to be Scottish. The organiser asks participants to wear comfortable clothes and flat, soft shoes. Scottish Country Dancing is usually danced in sets, with people moving through a sequence of formations, so it offers a social mix of movement, memory, music, and community.
Cost and Participation
Both October welcome sessions are free. The Humanitix listing says participants can simply turn up, and registration is available through the event page for anyone who wants to secure a spot or keep the details handy.
Venue
The sessions take place at Koonung Heights Uniting Church Hall in Balwyn North, the society's regular venue from July 2026. Use the contact options on this event page for registration or organiser enquiries.
