About this event
The Seniors Exercise Park Open Day invites older adults to explore purpose-built outdoor exercise equipment at Victoria Park in Kew on Friday 30 October 2026 from 10 am to 11:30 am. The shaded exercise area is designed to support balance, strength, functional movement, range of motion and mobility, with accessible seating available nearby.
Try the equipment with trained volunteers
Community volunteers trained with the National Ageing Research Institute will demonstrate how to use the equipment safely and effectively. Visitors can try the exercises with guidance and learn how movements may be adjusted to suit different abilities and fitness levels.
Registration is essential for one of three free 20-minute sessions:
- 10 am to 10:30 am
- 10:30 am to 11 am
- 11 am to 11:30 am
A welcoming introduction to gentle exercise
The open day is suitable for older adults across a range of fitness levels, including people who are curious about building confidence with outdoor exercise. Participants are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes suitable for physical activity. Anyone with a medical condition or concerns about health risks should consult their healthcare provider before using the equipment.
Stay for refreshments and discover ongoing sessions
After trying the equipment, participants can enjoy a complimentary snack and coffee. Volunteers and representatives from the City of Boroondara's Active Ageing team will also provide information about the regular free Come and Try sessions held at the park on Tuesday and Friday mornings from 9:30 am to 11 am. Those sessions do not run on public holidays or during unsuitable weather.
Plan your visit
The Seniors Exercise Park is within Victoria Park, adjacent to Kew Croquet Club, with the closest park entrance on High Street. The open day is free, but places must be booked in advance. As this is an outdoor event, it may be cancelled if rainfall or storms are forecast.
