About this event
The Sydney Airport Shark Island Swim returns to Cronulla on Sunday, 7 February 2027, offering two open-water events for swimmers of different experience levels.
The feature event is a 2.3 km swim around Cronulla’s offshore Shark Island reef. Starting at 10.00 am, it includes an Elite Wave followed by age-group waves for swimmers aged 13 and over. The course delivers a challenging ocean swim with surf, open-water conditions and views along Sydney’s southern coastline.
A shorter 1 km swim starts at 8.30 am and is open to swimmers aged 10 and over. Incorporating the Pulse Cronulla Beach Fun Swim, it is a welcoming option for newer ocean swimmers or anyone looking for a shorter challenge.
Timing bands are collected from the marquee in Cronulla Park, with collection opening from 7.00 am for the 1 km event and from 8.30 am for the 2.3 km event. Both swims finish beneath the event arch on Cronulla Beach.
The 2.3 km swim features separate age divisions, including 13–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59 and 60 years and over, as well as an Elite Wave. The Elite category is eligible for outright placings, prize money and trophies, while the 1 km swim offers overall male and female prizes.
Online entries are scheduled to close at 4.00 pm on Saturday, 6 February 2027, unless the event reaches capacity earlier. If conditions prevent the swim from proceeding on 7 February, the backup date is Sunday, 28 February 2027.
