About this event
Sydney Harbour Splash is an iconic open-water swimming event held in the sheltered waters of Rose Bay on Australia Day. The event offers a choice of 1km, 2.5km and 5km courses, making it suitable for beginners, younger swimmers and experienced distance swimmers.
The 1km course is a flat, sheltered loop close to the Rose Bay shoreline. The 2.5km course extends towards Hermit Point before returning to the start and finish area, while the 5km course follows the same scenic route over two laps.
Swimmers can enjoy sweeping views across Sydney Harbour, including the Sydney Harbour Bridge, while taking part in a well-established community swimming event. The bay is generally protected from ocean swell, and water temperatures in January are typically around 22–24°C.
Age requirements vary by course: the 1km swim is open to participants aged 9 and over, the 2.5km swim to those aged 13 and over, and the 5km swim to swimmers aged 16 and over. Sydney Harbour Splash takes place at Rose Bay, New South Wales, on Tuesday, 26 January 2027.
