Sydney’s Backyard Ultra is a gruelling endurance race set on a 6.706km loop, with runners setting off every hour on the hour until only one is left standing.
Held at St Ives Showground in Sydney’s north, the 2026 race starts at 8:00am on Saturday 19 September. The course is described as mostly fire trail and grass, and the event is designed as a true test of stamina, strategy and consistency.
Runners can expect a well-supported event with race photos, a finisher’s medal, live streaming and free parking included. The event also offers a free race shirt and has a capacity of 750 runners, making it one of the country’s biggest Backyard Ultra races.
This format rewards endurance over speed: each lap must be completed within one hour before the next yard begins. The race continues until just one competitor remains, creating an intense and memorable atmosphere for both participants and supporters.
