About this event
Cause
Virtual A Walk in the Park brings people together to raise awareness and funds for the Parkinson’s community throughout Western Australia. Organised by Parkinson’s WA, the challenge gives people in regional communities, metropolitan areas and beyond a way to participate even when they cannot attend the main A Walk in the Park gathering at Perry Lakes. Every walk is a visible show of support for people living with Parkinson’s, their families, friends and carers.
Funds raised through the challenge help Parkinson’s WA continue its work supporting the Western Australian Parkinson’s community. Participants can use their walk to start conversations, share why the cause matters to them and encourage their networks to contribute. Whether you take part alone or with a team, every step can help build awareness and strengthen the community around people affected by Parkinson’s.
What to Expect
This is a flexible virtual walking challenge that you can complete in a location that suits you. There is no fixed course or required distance. You might walk around your neighbourhood, visit a local park, follow an accessible indoor route or create a longer personal challenge. You decide where to walk, how far to go and whether to participate solo or alongside friends, family and colleagues.
The virtual format is designed for people who cannot join the in-person event on Sunday 13 September 2026. Participants can walk with the Parkinson’s WA community in spirit while adapting the activity to their own circumstances and ability. Choose a comfortable pace, plan a safe route and set a goal that feels meaningful to you. The event is about participation, connection and support rather than speed or competition.
You can also create a group and turn the challenge into a shared experience. Invite your family, friends, workplace or community group, choose a route together and encourage one another as you work towards your walking and fundraising goals. Participants are encouraged to share their progress and the reason they are walking to help more people learn about Parkinson’s and the services available in Western Australia.
How to Participate
- Register for the Virtual A Walk in the Park through the official Parkinson’s WA event page.
- Choose whether to participate on your own or create a group with friends, family, colleagues or community members.
- Select a safe and suitable location. Your walk can take place wherever you are, including a local park, neighbourhood route, walking track or accessible indoor space.
- Set your own distance and personal goal. This could be a particular number of kilometres, completing a comfortable walk or reaching a fundraising target.
- Start fundraising and share your challenge with your network. Explain why you are supporting Parkinson’s WA and invite others to donate or join your group.
- Complete your walk on Sunday 13 September 2026 and celebrate the steps you have taken for the Parkinson’s community.
Before setting out, check the weather and route conditions, wear comfortable footwear, carry water and follow local safety guidance. Choose a distance that is appropriate for your fitness, mobility and health. If you have any concerns about beginning a new physical activity, seek advice from an appropriate health professional.
Cost
Registration for the virtual challenge is free. Participants are encouraged to fundraise for Parkinson’s WA, but they can set a goal that suits their circumstances. Donations and fundraising contributions support the organisation’s work across Western Australia.
Milestone Rewards
Virtual participants can aim to be recognised as the event’s top virtual fundraiser. Rather than following fixed distance milestones, you can create achievements that are personally meaningful, such as completing your chosen route, increasing your usual walking distance, bringing a group together or reaching a fundraising target.
Every participant contributes by raising awareness and showing people affected by Parkinson’s that they are supported. Celebrate your progress, thank the people who walk or donate with you, and share the completion of your challenge with your community. Whatever distance you choose, every step counts.
