About this event

About the Event

The Women's Introductory Mountain Bike Course is run by RATS Cycling Club, a long-running Queensland club with eight years of hosting experience and hundreds of past attendees across its events. The course is part of the club's RATS Chicks Ride program, created to give women with limited or no mountain biking experience a safe, social entry point into the sport. It's led by an experienced coach from Flow MTB Coaching and is open to all women, including transgender women.

What to Expect

The course runs across two 2-hour sessions at Underwood Park Community Centre in Priestdale, Queensland: Sunday 26 July and Sunday 2 August, both from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The first session is a prerequisite for the second, as the skills taught build on each other, so participants need to attend both dates. Riders will cover the fundamentals of mountain biking, including body position, braking, and cornering, before being introduced to a selection of easy trails. Hybrid bikes are not suitable for the course; participants need a proper mountain bike, or can hire a club bike for an extra $20 covering both sessions. Numbers and hire bikes are limited, and registrations close Saturday 25 July at 5:00 PM, or earlier if the course sells out.

Participants who take part in RATS Cycling Club events need insurance cover. The club recommends an AusCycling membership, and new riders can start with a free four-week trial. Continuing on to the club's regular social rides, such as the RATS Chicks Ride, requires ongoing insurance through AusCycling or another recognised body such as Bicycle Queensland.

How to Participate

  • Register online through the official Eventbrite listing before the Saturday 25 July cut-off.
  • Select "bike required" during registration if you need to hire a club bike for both sessions.
  • Arrange AusCycling membership or equivalent insurance cover ahead of your first session.
  • Attend both sessions at Underwood Park Community Centre, Priestdale, as the course content is additive.

Cost

Entry is $80 to $100 per participant, depending on whether bike hire is added. Registration covers both sessions of the course.
