5km Running in Australia

A 5K race, also known as a 5-kilometer race, is a road running race with a distance of approximately 3.1 miles (5 kilometers). It is one of the most popular road race distances and is often used as a stepping stone for people new to running or looking to increase their distance over time gradually. In addition, many running events, such as charity runs and community events, include a 5K race as an option for participants. 5Ks are also popular as a timed event for runners who try to finish it in a fast time.

Training for a 5K race typically involves gradually increasing the distance of one's runs over time, emphasising building up endurance and developing good running form. A typical training plan for a 5K would involve running shorter distances at first and gradually building up to running the entire 5 kilometres.
