Golden Beach Walking Group
Activity Details
The Golden Beach Walking Group is generally comprised of over 50's walkers but there is nothing stopping younger people joining. We meet on the corner of Nelson St. & The Esplanade (adjacent to Chill Cafe) every Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 7am. (6.30am in Summer) Sorry no dogs, as they can be a trip hazard for our older walkers.
Although we head off together at 7.00am, the group soon splits into faster and slower groups. We generally walk for about 40-45 mins along the foreshore of Pumicestone Passage. Some people like to walk briskly, others like to dawdle and chat. Many are somewhere between these extremes so there would certainly be someone who would match your speed.
Most walkers stay and have a coffee and a chat afterwards at one of the coffee shops that Golden Beach has to offer. For some, it's just possible that the walk is an excuse to justify the coffee!
This is an opportunity to exercise, engage with nature and the outdoors, as well as socialise with other people.

Walking Your Way to Less Back Pain
A recent study from Macquarie University’s Spinal Pain Research Group has revealed that an individualized walking and education program can significantly reduce the recurrence of low back pain. The WalkBack trial, which involved over 700 participants, demonstrated that a progressive walking plan combined with education sessions led to longer periods without back pain and proved to be a cost-effective intervention. This accessible and low-cost approach offers a promising solution for managing and preventing low back pain, potentially easing both personal discomfort and healthcare expenses.
Time vs. Steps: What's Best for Health Targets?
Embracing an active lifestyle is a key pillar of healthy aging, but how should older Australian women track their physical activity? A study by Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women’s Hospital offers valuable insights into this question. By comparing the benefits of monitoring exercise time versus step counts, the research provides a clearer picture of what works best for health in this demographic.
