Avalon Beach Surf Swims brings two scenic ocean-swimming challenges to Sydney’s Northern Beaches on Sunday, 14 March 2027, as part of the Pittwater Ocean Swim Series.
- 2.5km Around the Bends: A point-to-point journey from Newport Beach to Avalon Beach, following the coastline around the headlands and past Bilgola Beach before finishing at Avalon.
- 1.2km Avalon Beach swim: A shorter course starting and finishing on Avalon Beach. Swimmers head out through the surf, follow a buoy-marked route along the coastline and return to shore near the Avalon surf lifesaving clubhouse.
The event offers a choice for experienced ocean swimmers, families and participants seeking a shorter introduction to open-water swimming. The timing of the swims may allow confident entrants to take on both distances, subject to the organiser’s final schedule and conditions.
The 2.5km swim is scheduled to start from Newport Beach, with registration opening from 7.30am and the swim starting at 9am. Registration for the 1.2km swim is scheduled to open at Avalon from 9am, with the swim starting at 10.30am. Event arrangements, course details and timings may be subject to change.
