About this event
Barge2Beach is a distinctive 2km ocean swim in Hervey Bay, taking participants from an offshore starting point back to the beach at the Hundy Festival precinct in Scarness. Swimmers travel to the start aboard the whale-watch vessel Spirit of Hervey Bay, which heads approximately 2km offshore before participants enter the water and swim towards the mainland.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, 21 November 2026, with an early-morning start. Registration is scheduled for 4.30am to 5.30am at the marina, followed by the boat transfer and a 6.30am swim start. The course finishes at the Scarness foreshore, where spectators can enjoy the festival atmosphere and welcome swimmers back to shore.
Entry includes the boat transfer to the starting point, professional timing, on-course photography, water safety support, medical assistance, and access to a recovery area with hydration and nutrition. Participants also receive a commemorative coffee mug, while trophies are awarded to the first three male and female finishers.
Barge2Beach is a no-swim-aids event, with flippers, swim buoys and similar equipment not permitted. Swimmers should be confident completing the full distance without assistance and should bring only essential belongings, as bags are transported on the vessel.
With a boat journey, an open-water start and a straight swim back to the coast, Barge2Beach offers a memorable challenge for experienced ocean swimmers. The protected waters of Hervey Bay provide a scenic setting, while the lively Scarness finish adds a celebratory coastal atmosphere to this unique Queensland swim.
