About this event
The Deep South Cliff Swim is a new ocean swimming event at Clifton Beach, Tasmania, held as part of the Tasmanian Ocean Swim Series. It offers a scenic beach start and a course sheltered by dramatic coastal cliffs, making for a distinctly southern Tasmanian swim experience.
This event is designed to suit a range of swimmers, with 500m and 2km swim options available. It is hosted by the local surf lifesaving club and is positioned as a welcoming community swim that places participation, connection and enjoyment of the ocean front and centre.
The swim is scheduled for Saturday 6 March 2027, and organisers have previously described it as an inaugural event with protected waters off the beach. Event information for the 2026 edition noted a morning schedule, limited parking, and that entries closed before race day, so swimmers should expect a well-organised early start and plan ahead.
For those making a weekend of it, the event sits alongside the Carlton Park Team Challenge the day before, creating a full weekend of ocean swimming on the Tasmanian coast. With rugged scenery, community atmosphere and manageable distances, the Deep South Cliff Swim looks set to be a highlight on the open-water calendar.
