About this event
Cliff to Bridge is a 15-kilometre open-water swimming event along Tasmania’s Derwent River, travelling from the New Norfolk esplanade to the boat ramp beneath the Bridgewater Bridge.
Starting at approximately 8.30am on Saturday, 6 February 2027, the swim follows the river through the Derwent Valley, combining a demanding endurance challenge with expansive views of sandstone cliffs, native bushland, farmland and quiet inland waterways. The expected water temperature is approximately 19°C.
Swimmers must be at least 14 years old on event day and have completed a previous open-water swim of 5 kilometres or more. The course has a six-hour cut-off, making pacing, preparation and steady energy management essential.
Water-safety vessels, jet skis and support craft operate throughout the course, allowing participants to concentrate on their swim while experienced crews monitor the field. Event inclusions also comprise insurance, a merchandise pack and finisher medal, with transport arrangements available between the city, finish area and start line, subject to limited seating.
Check-in is scheduled for Friday, 5 February, with the location and time to be confirmed. The precise gathering arrangements and start details may also be updated closer to event day.
From the sandstone cliffs at New Norfolk to the Bridgewater finish, Cliff to Bridge offers a distinctive river-marathon experience shaped by Tasmania’s Derwent Valley landscape, long-distance swimming and the steady rhythm of the current.
