About this event
Escape from Quarantine is a 6-kilometre open-water ferry swim from the Quarantine Station at Point Nepean to Sorrento, following the incoming tide. Scheduled for Saturday 13 March 2027, the inaugural event combines a scenic course, a dramatic ferry start and a timed mass-participation race. A backup date is listed for Sunday 14 March if conditions prevent the event from proceeding as planned.
Swimmers board a ferry before entering the water and can choose between a mass-start wave or smaller group starts. The event offers wetsuit and non-wetsuit categories, with male and female age groups ranging from 14 years through to 70-plus. Every participant is timed using a transponder.
The entry package includes a race T-shirt, ferry transfer, silicone swim cap and official timing. Small prizes are awarded to place-getters, and the event is planned to finish with an after-party. The tide-assisted route from Point Nepean to Sorrento provides an adventurous alternative to a conventional shoreline swim, with clear water and views across the entrance to Port Phillip Bay.
