About this event
The Pier to Perignon Swim is an annual open-water swimming event from Sorrento to Portsea on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. The 2027 swim is scheduled for Sunday, 21 February, covering approximately 4.5 kilometres and finishing at Portsea Pier.
The course is planned around the peak tidal streams, giving swimmers the benefit of an outgoing tide as they make their way from Sorrento towards Portsea. This tide-assisted format is a defining feature of the event and adds a distinctive dimension to the coastal swim.
The event began in 1989 after two swimmers completed the Sorrento-to-Portsea crossing, with the original prize being a bottle of champagne for the winner. It is organised by Portsea Surf Life Saving Club and has become a popular fixture on Victoria’s open-water swimming calendar.
Places are highly sought after, with entries reportedly selling out rapidly when registration opens. The 2027 event is currently listed as to be confirmed, so participants should check the organiser’s official updates for entry details, final arrangements and conditions closer to registration.
