About this event

The Barney Mullins Swim Classic is a much-loved ocean swim at Freshwater Beach, celebrating the surf club’s long-running swimming tradition and community spirit.

Set for Sunday, 14 February 2027, the event is expected to mark the 40th anniversary of the first swim, with the classic 1.5km course taking place in Freshwater’s sheltered bay.

This swim has deep local roots, beginning as a club event in the 1980s before opening to the wider ocean swimming community. It remains known for its friendly, inclusive atmosphere, with post-swim catch-ups and community celebrations as much a part of the day as the swim itself.

Swimmers can expect a well-loved Northern Beaches experience: clean water, a scenic bay framed by headlands, and a lively surf club vibe that draws both regulars and first-timers.
