About this event

Explore Plenty Gorge with a social group on Sunday 1 November 2026. This Melbourne Social Hike brings adults aged 18 and over together for around 10 km of walking, with a slow-to-medium pace, conversation and breaks along the trail. Come on your own or book with a friend; both new and experienced hikers are welcome.

RRC is also offering an optional 5 km trail run during the first 30 minutes before runners join the hiking group. The main hike remains focused on walking and meeting people, with a lunch break along the way.

Meeting up at Plenty Gorge

Arrive at 9:45 am for check-in and an icebreaker before the 10 am start, in Melbourne local time (AEDT). The exact hike meeting point, parking location, final route and updates are shared through a private Instagram group chat after booking. Follow the organiser's Instagram account before purchasing so you can be added. A group-chat link is sent via WhatsApp after booking; participants without Instagram or WhatsApp need to contact the organiser directly for arrangements.

Tickets and transport

Standard tickets are $20 per person before ticketing fees. Drivers who offer seats to other participants can book a discounted $5 carpooler ticket before ticketing fees. Tickets include the organised group hike and private group-chat access, with contributions towards public liability insurance, licensed guides, group safety equipment and a $2.40 per-person Parks Victoria fee.

Carpooling is arranged voluntarily between drivers and passengers, rather than provided as a transport service. Passengers contact drivers directly through the carpool information supplied with the event. Arrange a ride before buying a ticket where possible. Petrol, parking and other shared transport costs are agreed separately and are not included in admission.

Pack for the trail

  • Comfortable hiking shoes or boots.
  • Two to three litres of water, snacks and lunch.
  • A hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and insect repellent.
  • Optional hiking poles and wet-weather clothing.

Use toilet facilities before arriving, as facilities may be unavailable at the meeting point or along the hike. Downloading the AllTrails app before the event is recommended. Smoking and vaping are not permitted while hiking with the group.

An optional meal together may follow the hike, with each participant paying for their own food. Heavy rain or thunderstorms may lead to postponement or changes. Tickets are non-refundable unless the hike is cancelled or rescheduled. Read the event's booking terms before purchasing.
