About this event

Sandman 50 is a 50-kilometre beach ultramarathon running from the Old Dunsborough boat ramp to Busselton Jetty and back. The nominal race line follows the water’s edge, generally within three metres of the shoreline.

The 2027 event starts at 2.00am on Saturday, 23 January, taking runners along the beach under a full moon and around an exceptionally low tide. The overnight start creates a distinctive coastal challenge, with competitors setting out in darkness before dawn.

Entrants can complete the full distance individually or enter as a two-person relay, with each runner covering approximately 25 kilometres and the changeover taking place at Busselton Jetty.

Registration is scheduled to open in mid-2026. The event is listed by the Australian Ultra Runners Association.
