About this event
The Williamstown Open Water Challenge, known as the WOW Challenge, brings together first-time open water swimmers, experienced competitors and elite athletes for a community-focused ocean swimming event at Williamstown Beach.
Choose from four distances: 1.2km, 2.5km, 5km or 10km. The shorter swim is suited to participants seeking an introduction to open water swimming, while the longer courses offer a greater challenge for experienced swimmers.
The 2.5km swim follows Williamstown’s championship course, with the 5km event completing two laps. All events take place in open water, providing an opportunity to swim alongside competitors of varying ages, abilities and experience levels.
The WOW Challenge welcomes children, adults, weekend swimmers, fast and recreational competitors, and multiclass swimmers. It also offers the chance to share the water and event atmosphere with high-level open water athletes.
Held on Sunday, 28 February 2027, the event is based at Williamstown Beach in Williamstown, Victoria, approximately 10 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD.
