About this event
The Wollongong MMJ Aquathlon returns to Wollongong Harbour on Tuesday 26 January 2027, the Australia Day public holiday. Celebrating more than 25 years as a fixture on the Illawarra event calendar, this popular swim-run festival combines summer fitness, harbour scenery and an energetic community atmosphere.
Participants can choose from events suited to different ages and abilities, including:
- Long Aqua: a 900-metre swim followed by a 7-kilometre run
- Short Aqua: a 400-metre swim followed by a 3-kilometre run
- Mini Aqua: a 200-metre swim followed by a 2-kilometre run
- Kids Aqua: a 200-metre swim followed by a 2-kilometre run for children aged 6 to 12
- 5-kilometre Fun Run: a standalone running event open to a broad range of participants
Solo and tag-team participation options make the event accessible to both individual competitors and those who prefer to share the challenge. The harbour provides a relatively sheltered swim setting, while the run courses take in Wollongong’s picturesque coastal scenery and Blue Mile precinct.
With distances for children, first-time participants and experienced athletes, the Wollongong MMJ Aquathlon offers a lively Australia Day morning of swimming, running and community celebration on the waterfront.
