Activity Details

The Croydon Walking Club Inc is a welcoming, community-focused walking group based in Croydon South, Victoria, with around 60 active members. The club offers a diverse program of walks each Friday, starting at 8:30 am or 9:30 am, with occasional earlier starts at 8:00 am. Walks vary in length from easy suburban strolls of up to 8 kilometres to more challenging bush and hill walks reaching 20 kilometres, all within a convenient driving distance from Croydon Hills.

Safety is a priority; for remote walks, the club provides GPS and satellite phone support, and facilitates carpooling from the meeting point to each walk's start location. Visitors are welcome to join up to three walks—initially on shorter routes—before being invited to become members. Prospective participants interested in more demanding Day/Adventure walks are encouraged to first complete a Ramble walk to assess their fitness level.

Croydon Walking Club Inc is an affiliated member of Bushwalking Victoria, a community dedicated to promoting walking in natural settings for enjoyment, health, and environmental appreciation. Joining the club offers an excellent opportunity to meet like-minded people, enhance fitness, and explore the outdoors in a supportive environment. Membership fees are affordable, and visitors can often try walks before committing to join.

About the provider

Bushwalking VIC

As Victoria’s peak body for bushwalking, we represent all bushwalkers and bushwalking clubs in the state. Now an incorporated organisation, our roots go back to 1934 when the Federation of Victorian Walking Clubs was established. In 2006, a major restructure modernised the organisation and we adopted our current name to better reflect our key area of interest.

We work to unite members of Victoria’s diverse walking community – bushwalking club members, people from organisations with similar interests and individuals.

Thinking of hiking/bushwalking groups?

Social hiking or bushwalking groups can be organized by a variety of organizations, including local parks and recreation departments, hiking clubs, and online communities.

The benefits of joining a social hiking group are numerous. For one, it can provide a sense of community and motivation, as you have the support and encouragement of others to help you stick to your hiking routine. Hiking groups can also be a great way to meet new people and make new friends, especially if you are new to an area or looking to expand your social circle.

In terms of structure, social hiking groups can vary. Some groups may have a designated leader who plans the route and sets the pace, while others may be more informal, with participants simply showing up and hiking together. Some groups may meet on a regular basis, such as once a week, while others may be more sporadic.
