VICTOR Intelligence is a rechargeable sensor fitted to the end of a badminton racquet handle. Its current beta pairs with a phone app and records smash power and shot selection. It can also show changes during a match or across several sessions.
For players, the appeal is simple: the system could turn a vague feeling that your attack faded into a pattern you can compare. The first demonstration is promising, but several buying questions remain. Accuracy, racquet compatibility, price and an Australian release are not yet confirmed.
What does VICTOR Intelligence track?
A first-look video filmed at VICTOR's brand event in Nanjing, China, showed two racquets with a small chip in the end cap. The sensor charged through USB-C and connected to a companion app.
The app displayed four types of information:
- smash power;
- the percentage of shots classified as smashes, clears or drops;
- how smash power changed during a match; and
- results from earlier matches or training sessions.
The wording matters. The demonstration called the figure smash power. It did not establish that the app measures shuttle speed, and a sensor in the handle directly reads racquet movement rather than the shuttle's flight.
What could the numbers tell a player?
The most useful feature may be comparison rather than any single score. If smash power falls late in repeated matches, a player and coach have a pattern to investigate. If the app shows far more clears than drops in competition, it may prompt a discussion about shot selection.
Longer-term records could also help players compare sessions run under similar conditions. That is more meaningful than chasing the highest number on one swing, because placement, timing and disguise can matter more than raw speed.
The sensor still sees only part of the rally. It cannot explain whether a player was late to the shuttle, whether a drop landed near the line or how an opponent created pressure. Footwork, contact point and shot quality still need a coach, video or careful observation.
The data becomes useful when it points to a question a player can test in the next session.
What has not been proved yet?
The video was an early look, not an independent accuracy test. Its presenters disclosed that VICTOR sponsors them, while also saying the brand did not require the video. They planned a fuller test after the event.
VICTOR has not published an English validation for the beta system's stroke classification. It has also not shown how the power figure compares with a known reference. Results may vary with technique, grip style and less conventional shots. Those questions matter more than a polished app screen.
There is another practical unknown: the two demonstration racquets had already been prepared with the sensor. The video did not show that the module can be added to any VICTOR racquet, let alone a racquet from another brand.
How does the hardware work?
The underlying idea has been in development for several years. A Taiwanese government project page describes a built-in inertial sensor that records swing motion for cloud analysis. A National Cheng Kung University report also describes an internet-connected chip and inertial sensor inside a VICTOR racquet.
The four-year research project, announced in 2020, combined racquet data with cameras, a smartwatch and the UCoach app. The team also worked on reducing the size and weight of the electronics. The 2026 demonstration appears simpler: racquet, end-cap sensor and phone. VICTOR has not detailed how much of the earlier platform remains in the beta product.
Can Australian players buy it?
At the time of writing this article (16 September 2026), we couldn't find an Australian release date or retail price for this racquet. VICTOR also has not published a compatibility list, battery-life figure or final app requirements for this beta system.
Before considering a purchase, players should confirm the exact compatible racquets and whether the module changes handle weight or balance. They should also ask what the power number means and whether session history can be exported or deleted. Ongoing phone support and data privacy matter too, particularly if a coach manages records for junior players.
Who is it likely to suit?
The strongest case is for players and coaches who already run repeatable drills and will act on trends. For them, automatic records could save manual logging and reveal a drop in output across a session.
A beginner may get more immediate value from feedback on grip, contact and footwork, which the sensor cannot provide. A social player may simply enjoy the numbers, but value will depend heavily on the eventual price.
VICTOR Intelligence is an interesting training tool, not an automatic coach. Until VICTOR publishes compatibility, independent validation and Australian pricing, there is not enough evidence to replace a good racquet for the sensor alone.
