About this event
The Byron Bay Ocean Swim Classic is a much-loved open water swimming event held in Byron Bay on the first Sunday in May each year.
Organised by the Byron Bay Winter Whales, the event brings swimmers into the pristine waters of Byron Bay for a well-supported race experience in a spectacular coastal setting.
The main event, the Byron Bay Property Sales Ocean Swim Classic, is an approximately 2.2 kilometre buoyed course that runs from Wategos Beach, around The Pass and across the bay to Main Beach.
A shorter introductory swim is also part of the programme, designed for newer ocean swimmers and confident children, making the event accessible to a wider range of participants.
The race includes age categories across a broad range, with prizes awarded in five-year groups, and free entry available for older swimmers in select divisions.
Beyond the competition itself, the event also raises funds for local charities and showcases the natural beauty of Cape Byron Marine Park.
