About the Event
Footprints of Change: AIEC Veerni Run is an early morning community run and walk held during the Australia India Education Council (AIEC) conference at ICC Sydney. Organised by Acumen, part of the Sannam S4 Group, the event brings conference delegates together for a shared morning of movement before the day's sessions begin. Now in its third year, the run has become a regular fixture for Acumen and its partners, drawing participants who want to connect with fellow delegates outside the formal conference setting.
The event supports the Veerni Literacy Programme, which has worked since 1993 to give girls from disadvantaged communities in rural India access to education, healthcare, nutrition and life skills. Through its two flagship initiatives, the Veerni Institute and Veerni Balika, the organisation supports more than 100 girls each year from remote desert villages around Jodhpur. The Sydney run is one of several Veerni Run/Walk events held around the world by Acumen teams and partners to raise awareness and support for the programme.
What to Expect
The run starts and finishes at ICC Sydney, with arrival from 6:15 AM and the event running from 6:30 AM to 7:30 AM. It's a relaxed, non-competitive format open to runners, walkers and anyone keen to start their conference day with some movement. There's no minimum fitness level required — the emphasis is on community and contribution rather than pace or distance.
Participants are encouraged to bring colleagues along, with the organisers noting that a bigger turnout means a bigger impact for the cause. The route takes in the harbourside area around Darling Harbour, offering a scenic morning outlook over the water before the conference day gets underway.
