Now in its 45th year, the Freo Ocean Classic is a much-loved Fremantle summer tradition celebrating ocean swimming, community spirit and participation for all ages and abilities.
Held at Leighton Beach on Saturday, 23 January 2027, the event brings swimmers together on one of Western Australia’s most iconic coastlines. The wide sandy beach, clear water and relaxed Fremantle atmosphere create an inviting setting for a memorable morning by the ocean.
Multiple swim distances make it easy to choose a challenge that suits your experience and goals. The program includes the popular 500-metre swim, longer open-water courses for seasoned swimmers, and kid-friendly events designed to help younger participants build confidence in the water and enjoy their first taste of ocean swimming.
Whether you are taking on your first open-water event, preparing for a bigger summer challenge or returning for an annual swim with friends, the Freo Ocean Classic offers a welcoming mix of competition, progression and shared experience.
