About this event
The Fremantle Ports Swim Thru is one of Western Australia’s longest-running open-water swimming events, with origins dating back to 1922 when it was known as “The Big Swim”.
Held in the calm, sheltered waters of South Beach in South Fremantle, the event offers swimmers a choice of three distances: 250 metres, 1.6 kilometres and 3.2 kilometres. The range of courses provides options for different ages and experience levels, from a short introductory swim to a longer open-water challenge.
The event is conducted by the Fremantle Masters Swimming Club and remains a fixture on the local open-water swimming calendar. A portion of proceeds supports the Freo Street Doctor and St Patrick’s Community Support Centre, helping provide practical health and community services to people experiencing disadvantage.
The 2026 swim is scheduled for Saturday, 12 December at South Beach, South Fremantle. The date and event arrangements should be confirmed with the organiser before making plans.
