Leadership ACT brings together young adults aged 16–24 for five days of outdoor challenges and practical leadership development at Tharwa. The 18–22 January 2027 session is marked full by the organiser, with a waitlist available.
Practise leading under pressure
The indicative itinerary includes abseiling, the Giant Ladder, team problem-solving and public speaking. Rather than learning leadership only in a classroom, participants test communication and decision-making while working through shared outdoor tasks.
A high-performance challenge and raft building on the Murrumbidgee River give the group opportunities to put those skills into practice. Environmental service, a values journey and an overnight campout follow. The final day includes reflection, a celebratory lunch and a closing certificate ceremony. Activities and routes may change.
Cabins followed by a campout
Participants spend the first three nights in shared cabin accommodation with ensuite facilities. The final night is an outdoor camping experience using tents or tarps and foam sleeping mats. The program focuses on interpersonal skills and personal challenges; the organiser describes around two kilometres of walking a day between activities rather than full-day hikes.

Follow the seasonal packing list, including enclosed footwear and a rain jacket, and disclose dietary or medical needs in advance.
Arrival is at 10:30am on the first day, with the program concluding at 2pm on the final day. Families are invited to the 1:30pm certificate ceremony. Organiser-arranged Canberra transfers require advance confirmation through the pre-program transport form.
