About this event

The Little Penguin Dash is a junior beach biathlon for children aged 7 to 14, combining a swim in the bay with a run along the foreshore. It is run in age-group heats, with different course lengths for 7 to 10 year olds and 11 to 14 year olds.

Held at Cowes Beach, the event is designed to be fun, safe and participation-focused rather than competitive. Swim depth is adjusted for each age group, and every entrant receives a medal to celebrate completing the course.

Young competitors start on the beach, complete their age-appropriate swim, then change into runners in a designated transition area before dashing along The Esplanade to finish under the event arch. The event atmosphere is lively and family-friendly, with cheering crowds adding to the excitement.

Course distances are:

7 to 10 years: 200m swim and 800m run
11 to 14 years: 400m swim and 1.2km run

The Little Penguin Dash is held alongside the broader Cowes Classic event, making it a great introduction to open-water racing and beach multisport for younger participants.
